MeeVee Sneak Preview: 10 Items or Less -- I Owe My Soul to the Company Store

10items 10 Items or Less follows in the mostly-improv tradition of The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Unlike those comedic gems, 10 Items or Less doesn't feature any actors you've heard of (such as Steve Carell) or even familiar guest stars (Richard Lewis, for example). It doesn't come equipped with a Seinfeld pedigree or the crossover potential of a hit show already tested in England. It's written by a stand-up comic whose main claim to fame is the mockumentary Memron. To top it off, 10 Items or Less is not only set in -- but actually filmed in -- a grocery store. If all this sounds like a recipe for disaster... well, it might. Only time -- and the Nielsen ratings -- will tell.

GMMR: Veronica Mars -- Don't Count Your Eggs Before They've Passed

Gmmr_logo_7_1Veronica Mars
Title: “Lord of the Pi’s”
Original Airdate: 11/21/06

After two truly stellar episodes, it’s pretty disappointing to see such a flat showing with this week’s episode, “Lord of the Pi’s”, particularly since it was scribed by one of my favorite Veronica Mars writers, Diane Ruggiero. Still, I felt better watching last night’s poor episode knowing that the show is already secure with its full season order.

House: The Best Half-Hour on Television

Haus_2_1 Critics who haven't seen The Wire, didn't like Arrested Development, and evidently don't believe cable is "television" often refer to House as the "best show on television." Last night's episode halfway vindicates these opinions. That is, half the episode is TV at its best -- the half with House struggling to maintain his tenuous friendship with Wilson against increasing pressure from his latest nemesis, Detective Tritter. The other half of the show -- the actual medical drama -- has become nearly meaningless.

Nip/Tuck: A Sign of the Apocalypse?

46059

Dr. Christian Troy, our beloved womanizing, narcissistic, self-destructive boy-man, is morphing into a monogamous metrosexual. Is Nip/Tuck jumping the shark? Judging from the frighteningly cheesy dialogue and goodie-goodie character shifts, something is definitely fishy. But, my friends, there’s a light in the fog. The dark side of Troy/McNamara will rise again.

GMMR: Gilmore Girls -- "Gilmore without the Gilmore is…like…Gil-less"

Gmmr_logo_7_1Title: “Introducing Lorelai Planetarium”
Original Airedate: 11/21/06

This week's episode of Gilmore Girls begins early in the morning and Lorelai is on the phone leaving Rory a message to please call her, STASAP (Sooner Than As Soon As Possible). She wants to see Rory that very day and man does she seem anxious. Chris hands over coffee and insists Rory will call her when she wakes up. In the living room Chris starts talking of ways to redecorate the house, something about waterfalls, reclining chairs and giant flat screen TV’s.

NFL: Turkey, Pumpkin Pie, and (sigh) the Lions

Lions The link between professional football and Thanksgiving can be traced back to the 1920s, when you might've seen the Dayton Triangles play the Providence Steam Roller. Soon after, in 1934, the Detroit Lions played their first of 69 Turkey Day games. We can blame this long-standing tradition for the suckiest nationally televised game of the year. This year’s hapless Lions take on Miami in the early game, while Dallas (another Thanksgiving perennial) plays Tampa Bay, and NFL Network kicks off inaugurates Thursday Night Football.
