Sports Update: World Series Action, NBA Opens for Business

M102701a After Major League Baseball's sprawling season, the week-long World Series seems rushed. The hard-luck Tigers are down to their last nine outs, facing the Cardinals in St. Louis on Friday night, as the Tigers try desperately to get the series back to Detroit for Games Six and Seven. The tense atmosphere surrounding the last innings of these do-or-die games runs counter to the sport's leisurely vibe. Every pitch is a potential career-maker or -breaker, a fact that would have more impact if Joe Buck wouldn't remind us of it every 10 seconds.
