Last time we saw Dr. Gregory House, he was lying in a puddle of his own puke -- and it was still three weeks until New Year’s!
Now House is back, and despite a fraudulent stint in rehab and a night in jail, nothing has changed. He’s still gobbling Vicodin, his bosses are still threatening to cut him off, and his subordinates are still mangling patients in their ever-labyrinthine attempts to heal them. If only House (and I don't mean the character) took as many risks as its doctors do.
Some People's Choice Awards
Pop culture fans everywhere kicked off Awards Show season last night with the 33rd Annual People's Choice Awards. While not nearly as obscene as their film counterparts (best on-screen matchup: Johnny Depp & Keira Knightley -- really?), the People's Choice television category results were both predictable and dull.
Two and a Half Men and The Simpsons took home the prizes for Favorite Comedy and Favorite Animated Comedy, respectively. Grey's Anatomy won Favorite Drama, and American Idol took Favorite Competition/Reality Show. The freshman series The Class and Heroes both received statuettes. Eva Longoria, Patrick Dempsey, and Ellen DeGeneres took home the coveted "Most Favoritest People" awards.
Scooby-Doo Creator Dies; Mystery-Solving Temporarily Suspended
Iwao Takamoto, the animation designer who gave birth to Scooby-Doo and the gang, died of heart failure Monday. Takamoto, who was 81, worked for Hanna-Barbera right up until the end, overseeing the most recent direct-to-video Scooby-Doo projects and storyboarding a 2005 Tom and Jerry short.
Takamoto’s career path was anything but ordinary. He learned to illustrate while in a California internment camp during World War II. He later worked for Disney before landing at Hanna-Barbera.
