MeeVee Exclusive: 5 +1 Questions with William Shatner

ShatnerdoinghisthingWith over 50 years in show business, William Shatner has done it all – drama (Star Trek, Boston Legal), comedy (The Transformed Man), and now game shows. Tonight, Show Me the Money, ABC’s latest stab at reality game show programming premieres. Billed as “Shat-tastic,” Shat-tackular,” and “Shat-stounding,” SMTM is like no other show on television, combining variety, comedy, and plenty of sexy dancers (including its Shat-terrific host). We were fortunate to speak with Mr. Tambourine Man, live via conference call. Here’s what he has to say about Howie Mandel, Star Trek XI, and his infamous call for fans to Get a life.

My Name Is Earl: Barely Out of Diapers and Already Putting Grown Shows to Shame

Nup_103825_0040_1 My Name Is Earl is one of the basest, most juvenile bits of non-game show programming on network TV these days. It’s also among the most clever shows since The Simpsons, and certainly the most charming since the lamentably cancelled Arrested Development. Here’s hoping it follows the career trajectory of the former. My Name Is Earl is helping to raise the bar, not just for half-hour sitcoms, but also for the very profession of comedic acting. Its cast delivers more expression and depth than anyone ever expected. Need examples? I'll give you two: Jason Lee and Jaime Pressly.

Dancing with the Stars: And the Winner is...

Smith_24_240x360 "It's an ugly trophy... but you really want to win it." -Drew Lachey, season two champion

Dancing with the Stars began its third season in the dog days of summer almost three months ago, with a motley crew of contestants – some extremely talented, others extremely eager, and, naturally, those who were just there for some extreme exposure. Viewers tuned in every week, twice a week, and got more than just dancing. There was comedy… drama… injury… and… bullfights? After ten weeks of reality-style dance competition, let’s take a waltz down memory lane.

GMMR: Sneak Preview of Tonight's The Office

Nup_101508_0093 Supersize Me Baby…
This week’s episode of The Office focuses on the merger of the Stamford and Scranton branches of Dunder Mifflin. Michael Scott is overly excited about the new people joining the branch. Of course it has less to do with building Dunder Mifflin than it does with the fact that Michael will have a fresh new audience for his antics, and perhaps a few new friends.

30 Rock: If a Show Rocks, but No One Watches, Does it Really Rock?

30r 30 Rock is not just a solid sitcom; it’s maybe the best meta-show ever. The idea has always been ludicrous: an NBC show about the behind-the-scenes happenings of a show on a fictional network called…NBC. I mean, who cares? According to the ratings, not enough people. According to the critics, everyone should. The critics, in this case, are right.

Dancing with the Stars: The Final Dance-Off

Lopez_14_360x240 On Tuesday night, the third season of Dancing with the Stars came down to a final dance-off between fancy-footed Superbowl champ Emmitt Smith (with partner Cheryl Burke), and smooth-moved Latin lothario Mario Lopez (with partner – and paramour? – Karina Smirnoff). The judges – and the viewers – have seemed to be torn between the two couples week to week, as each brings something quite different to the floor.

MeeVee Exclusive: 5 Questions with Taye Diggs

107113_d_0221_pre Taye Diggs has more than a few accomplishments under his belt. A stint on Broadway, guest spots on such hit shows as Ally McBeal, Will & Grace, and The West Wing, as well as numerous screen credits (How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Best Man, House on Haunted Hill) make his resume one of the most diverse in Hollywood. Now he’s starring in his own series: Day Break, which premieres tonight on ABC. In Day Break, Diggs plays Det. Brett Hopper, a man framed for murder, who's compelled to relive what is probably the worst day of his life over and over again -- until he sets the record straight. Williamshatner What do a flamboyant gay man and a Navy pilot have in common? Nothing. The gay man won over half a million dollars, and the Navy pilot won bupkes. Welcome to the wacky world of ABC’s newest game show, Show Me The Money, hosted by the ubiquitous William Shatner. Shat may have some bona fide super powers, but even his charm can’t overcome the utter lack of originality in this program.
